The source of 'rendered' animal fat is opaque and may include tissue from euthanized animals. In 2018, FDA detected pentobarbital (an animal euthanasia drug) in multiple well-known brands. The source was traced to rendered beef tallow containing horse meat. Choose products with clearly identified fat sources.
